Laser eye surgery remains one of the most advanced and popular way to get better vision. If you’re nearsighted, farsighted, have an astigmatism, or some combination of these, you can achieve a higher level of eyesight and depend far less on your contacts or eyeglasses. At Dr. Shipley & Associates, our Windsor eye surgeon is dedicated to offering you the latest and most exciting options in laser eye surgeries and corrections. We even offer FREE screenings so that you can discover if this is the right move for you.
LASIK is a safe and highly effective eye surgery. And now, done with 2 lasers, you can end up with 20/20 vision or even better. LASIK has a very successful track record, as high as 98%. And while that means not needing your corrective lenses as often with some patients being able to give up their glasses or contacts entirely, our Windsor eye surgeon wants to increase that likelihood, giving you the best chance at full independence from wearing corrective lenses. Another innovation, called wavefront LASIK, uses 3-D measurements for greater precision in vision correction, leading to results that would not be possible with standard LASIK. While not everyone is a good candidate for wavefront LASIK, an exam and consultation will allow us to make that determination. All-laser LASIK is also available, eliminating mechanical tools and blades entirely.
The basics of all laser eye procedures done by our Windsor eye surgeon will be somewhat similar. Medicated eye drops will be used to numb you locally. A thin flap of your cornea will be opened by using the laser. This allows access to the corneal tissue beneath, which is then reshaped by the laser. The flap is then put back into place. It’s natural to experience some dryness in your eyes afterward, but you will be given eye drops to combat that and also to protect against infection and inflammation. No stitches or bandages are needed.
There are certain qualifications for LASIK, such as that you must be at least 18 years of age, you should not have had any corneal disease past or present, and your prescription should be within specific acceptable limits. Start by calling us to make an appointment with our Windsor eye surgeon.
