If you have been experiencing blurred vision, and are having trouble seeing in certain lighting conditions, such as when driving at night, you may be having problems with cataracts. At our vision practice, Dr. Shipley & Associates, our eye doctor, just one of whom is Dr. Les Shipley, can give you a comprehensive eye exam to determine whether or not you do indeed have Santa Rosa cataracts.
Cataracts are very common in people over the age of 60. When a person has a cataract, it means that there is a thickening of the natural lens of the eye. When this occurs, vision becomes blurred. Unfortunately, eventually most cataracts will lead to total blindness if not treated. It is impossible for anyone to determine exactly how far a cataract will progress, or how quickly this will occur. Our eye doctor can determine whether or not you do have Santa Rosa cataracts, and if so, may be able to provide you with a lens prescription that will have you seeing clearly again. Sometimes patients are able to go through several changes with their lens prescription before they need to have cataract eye surgery. Certain medical conditions may make it more likely that you develop cataracts. When you have cataracts, you will not be able to see clearly, and your vision will become progressively worse. Our eye doctor can easily determine whether or not you have cataracts by a close examination of your eyes. When our eye doctor determines that you will need to have cataract eye surgery, you can be referred to an expert eye surgeon in the area who specializes in laser cataract surgery. The surgery is considered to be extremely safe. Patients are able to remain pain-free during the procedure due to the use of anesthetic eye drops. During the surgery, the damaged natural lens is removed through a tiny incision of the cornea, and is replaced with a new, man-made intraocular lens which will provide you with excellent vision.
